Professor David Niv, MD, FIPP
August 6, 1950 – February 6, 2007
David Niv, one of the founders of the World Institute of Pain (WIP), was a leading expert in the field of pain medicine. In addition to his contributions to WIP, he served as a council member of the International Society for the Study of Pain (IASP), president of the European Federation of IASP Chapters (EFIC), and president of the Israel Pain Association. He was Director of the Multidisciplinary Pain Control Unit and Pain Research Laboratory, Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, and Professor of Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at Tel-Aviv University.
His life’s work was devoted to the advancement of pain as a disease rather than a symptom, and helping relieve the suffering of patients with chronic pain. WIP will always miss David’s smile and remember his phenomenal contributions to the advancement of pain science and medicine, and offers its condolences to David’s family, friends, patients and colleagues.
